Chase Cellars

Katye Hayne is the woman behind Chase Cellars. She is the fifth generation.  She is the granddaughter of William and Sarah Chase Bourn who are the original owners of the land purchased in 1872. Katye continues with the legacy of the family with what she describes as her role as Steward of this property.  This is a beautiful property, with vines over 115 years old, and it is what she considers the soul of the wine that Chase Cellars produces.

In 2018-2019, I was conducting private tours to Napa and was lucky to be able to visit this winery several times. I meet Sarah and her small but awesome staff, Alise and Brian, who made me feel right at home.

The Wine maker of Chase is Russell Bevan. He along with Chase Cellars, have many 90-100-point scores from the most respected wine critics in the world, although personally, I don’t really pay much attention to scores. I mention that only because it is an interesting fact.

I have to say that this winery really takes care of every part of the process to make superior wines.  From the viticulture perspective of dry farming and no use of any chemicals, to the meticulous artistry winemaking approach of, “let the vine express itself in a bottle”.

Here at 13 Prime, we are fortunate to carry 2018 Bour Luck. This wine is a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc and 60% Merlot. What a delicious wine! If you like bold wines, well this is the wine you are looking for.  This wine is bold yet elegantly smooth with floral notes on the nose and rich coco.  It has cedar and dark berries on the mouth as this blend displays character and elegance at the same time. When I think of food, you are probably guessing that this big boy needs a nice steak, ribeye, our chef cut Porterhouse.  You are correct.  It also pairs nicely with our 13 Prime Classic Cheese  Burger.  Big Wine, Big Taste. Cheers!
